When you enter the production area at Werkzeugbau Hartmann, it is quite possible that the rhythmic sound of the machines is only faintly audible in the background, as you are greeted by driving dance beats or hard rock. And that’s just the start, because things are done a bit differently at Hartmann. The machinery is state-of-the-art and covers all standard machining processes in high-quality toolmaking. Courage, absolute honesty and the pursuit of perfection are what set this small Chemnitz-based company apart. And thanks to first-class working conditions, it’s no wonder that the whole team is highly motivated.

Werkzeugbau Hartmann GmbH is part of the hestomed family and manufactures almost all components for our emergency medical services products. The mandatory crash tests, involving forces of up to 20g, are also planned and prepared here. Ultimately, however, work for the parent company accounts for only around thirty per cent of this high-performance machine manufacturer’s output. Around seventy per cent of their work is for external clients from a wide range of sectors: renewable energy, automotive engineering, research and development, and much more.

Despite this diversity, one thing quickly becomes clear: Hartmann is always there when it comes to clever solutions of the highest quality. Because here, precision is a way of life.

In many areas of manufacturing and machining, Hartmann boasts the most advanced equipment the market has to offer. Automated 5-axis machining centres with CNC robots run round the clock if required, tirelessly delivering workpieces with perfect dimensional accuracy and relieving staff of shift work. Wire and die-sinking EDM are also standard here. This high-precision ablative manufacturing process is regarded by experts as the very definition of premium quality, because it simply doesn’t get any better than this.

One would never expect to find such cutting-edge technology in the small hall on Kauffahrtei in Chemnitz, and that is precisely what defines the spirit at Hartmann. Here, everyone pursues a common mission and focuses on technical perfection. Customers are actively involved and given honest advice. This fosters long-term business relationships underpinned by trust that has grown organically. It is therefore no surprise that the company has doubled its customer base over the last five years. And many clients keep coming back, as comparable services from a single source are hard to find on the market.

For hestomed, too, the close link with the subsidiary is invaluable, as it allows us to jointly develop products from the initial idea, through design and prototyping, right through to series production and assembly. We inspire each other and work together to find ways in which real-world problems encountered in everyday emergency services can be solved even more effectively with technical solutions. Not least because we are direct and honest with one another, many things happen much faster than when working with external service providers.

Ultimately, both hestomed and the toolmaking division benefit from the close connection between the two companies: as an emergency services equipment supplier, we can bring product ideas to life quickly and respond flexibly to user feedback. The machine builders are opening up new fields of application for their cutting-edge technology. However, the real winners are, in any case, our customers, as they receive innovative, top-quality products for the emergency services that are optimised for daily use in the field.

It is a sad reality: there is a bewildering array of options on the market for mounting devices in vehicles. This makes work in the ambulance unnecessarily complicated, and we are certain that it could be made much simpler. So we developed a universal device mount that can accommodate all types of devices and even allows connection to the vehicle’s CAN bus system. With this patented standard mounting system from hestomed, the concept of integrated safety can be put into practice, making the day-to-day work of emergency services personnel noticeably easier.
